Application filed April 18, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR A. MoRAE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in VVatch-Fobs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watch fobs, and the object of the invention is to provide an improved and novel form of means for connecting the fob portion proper to the top part of the fob.
A further object of the invention is to provide a type of connection of the character above set forth which will unite the parts in secure and eflicientmanner, and at the same time to provide an inexpensive and simple connection.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a fragment of the fob-portion proper and the latter in detached relation to the ornamental top part of the fob. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view showing the parts in united position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the fob applied to a pocket. Fig. 41: is a rear elevation showing some of the parts broken away and in section, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of the finishing or covering piece.
The ornamental top which is designated by the numeral 1 is provided with a contracted ornamental curved extension 2, which is integral with the material from which the top 1 is formed. A right angled clasp lever 3 is pivoted in an opening provided therefor in the curved extension 2 having its inner arm bearing against the spring 4 which is riveted to the top 1, spring 4 being of inverted U-shape and forming a jaw at its free end, which, when engaged by the clasp lever 3 in the manner shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings, grips or clamps the portion of the clothes which is received in the space between the legs of the U-shaped spring 4. The lower end of top 1 is formed with a rectangular elongated slot 5, through which is passed a split tube 6, the split or slit 7 of which normally faces downwardly as depicted in the drawings. It will further be seen that the side edges of the tube 6 form jaws which extend toward each other and are disposed at a distance below the bottom edge of top 1. The fob portion proper is Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 556,075.
designated 8 in the drawings, and may either be formed of woven wire or ribbon or any other suitable material, the same having a slightly enlarged top 9 which is adapted to be received on the interior of the tube 6, the ribbon 8 adjacent the enlarged end 9 being received in the slit or split 7 of tube 6 as clearly depicted in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings.
It will be seen that the enlarged end 9 is slid into the tube 6 in an obvious manner. Finishing pieces or disks 10 which constitute covers are provided with slots 11, the latter being of a size to receive the bottom edge of the top 1, whereby the pieces 10 are placed over the ends of the tube 6 and soldered or brazed or otherwise secured in position as seen in Fig. 41. Obviously the pieces 10 prevent any lateral movement of the fob proper 8, holding the latter in tube 6.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A watch fob, comprising a top formed with a slot, a split tube, the part below said slot being passed through the split of the tube so as to be located within said tube, a fob portion proper extending through the split of the tube and having an enlarged end received on the interior of the tube, and means to hold said enlarged end of the fob proper in said tube consisting of disks secured to the ends of the tube and formed with slots to receive the adjacent portions of the top.
2. A watch fob, comprising atop part formed with a slot which extends adjacent to and in alinement with the bottom edge of the top part and disposed between the opposite ends of said top part, a split tube, the part below said slot of the top part being passed through the split of the tube so as to be located within said tube, a fob proper extending through the split of the tube and having an enlarged end received on the interior of the tube, and means to hold said enlarged end in said split tube.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR A. MoRAE. Witnesses:
