To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IRVING R. Lnonnnn, a ,mtrzen of the United States, and resident of the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GarmentlrHolders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a garment holder, more particularly used for connecting together the opposite edges of a soft collar to prevent the same from spreading, and thi invention has'for its object to provide a bar on the under side of which is mounted a pair of spring actuated jaw members adapted to engage the adjacent edges of a collar to retain them in a given position relative to each other.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully de scribed, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the bar member which is preferably blanked out of sheet stock in the form illustrated in Fig. 2 having ears 11 formed integral with the edge thereof, The next operation after cutting out this blank is to swage or draw the same up into substantially the same for i illustrated in Fig. 3, which .is that of a trough or channel shape having its opposite edges 12 turned up to form side flanges, the ends 13 being also turned up to form bitim lips for engaging the fabric. In order to dbtain a more perfect binding and gripping effect I have cut away the edges .ofthese flanges as at 14 near the opposite ends of the bar.

The gripping member 15 is also preferablv blanked out of sheet stock having its end 16 turned inwardly and preferably notched as at 17 to form teeth for better gripping the fabric of the garment. In order to provide the necessary gripping tension for these clamping members I have formed a sheet metal spring 21 of a width adapted to loosely lie in the channel between the side flanges 12, its ends 22 being turned outwardly so as to engage the under side of each of the opposite clamping members, to normally hold thesebiting ends closed against the inner face of the bar.

The device is extremely simple and practical in construction and is adapted to be most readily attached to the opposite adjacent edges of the collar to hold them firmly in adjusted position and by this construction the face of the bar may be left entirely plain or made as ornamental as desired rendering the device handsome and attractive .in appearance.
