To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Josnrrr H. LANCOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bow-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to bow holders adapted for use in hair upon a human head.

The essential objects of my invention are to. avoid the necessity of manually tieing the ornamental bow; to enable the bow to be quickly and securely engaged in the holder and readily disengaged therefrom; to afford a means for firmly clamping the holder in the hair to insure against accidental movement, and by means easily applied; and to attain these ends in a structure simple and inexpensive to construct.

To the above ends primarily my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of .parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

My device in its present and preferred form of embodiment consists of an oblong plate 8 provided with an open loop or bend 9 at one end continuous with an arm 10. Upon the end of the latter is an upwardly directed inturned curved lip 11 adapted to be overlapped by a similar downwardly directed inturned curved lip 12 upon the end of the member 8. Midway the length of the member 8 are

13 and 14, pro- 'vided respectively with longitudinally disposed oblong slots 15 and 16 respectively.

The described portions of my device comprise a single piece cut out and bent up from a blank of resilient sheet metal. The resilient arm 10 is normally disposed at an angle to the body or plate 8 as shown in Fig. 7, but admits of being manually forced into parallelism and so maintained by the frictional interengagement of the lips 11 and 12. The described parts are adapted for engaging the hair by inserting the arm 10 into the same and then engaging the lips in the manner set forth.

A means for engaging a bow is provided consisting of a resilient metal strap or curved tongue 17 having a loop 18 at one end formed by passing the end of the band through the slot 1& and imparting a return bend tothe portion s0 inserted, thus forming a hinge sleeve upon the marginal portion 19 of the extension 14.

The opposite end of the strap is outwardly bent as at 20 forming a finger 21 which passes through the slot 15 and bears against the lower edge of the extension 13 when the strap 17 is in engaged or closed position. To disengage the latter it is only necessary to manually press rearwardly upon the swelled portion of the resilient strap adjacent the finger.

The bow 22 is placed upon the plate 8 and the strap, which is originally open as shown in Fig. 6, is thus brought to engaged position as shown in Fig. 4.

The strap 17, the hinge sleeve 18, and the finger 21, are all cut and bent in one piece from a sheet of thin metal.

t will be observed that the device as a whole comprises only two pieces of metal and is easily assembled.

I claim 1. A device of the character described comprising in a continuous piece of fiat resilient material a plate, and an arm, said plate being provided with slots in its opposite lateral margins, and an imperforate strap consisting of a continuous piece of flat resilient metal comprising a body, a loop on one end of the body engaging the plate through one slot, and a finger on the other end of the body engaging the plate through the second slot.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a plate, a resilient arm integral with one end of the plate, a curved lip upon the other end of the plate, a curved lip upon the free end of the arm adapted to overlap the first lip, a curved resilient strap disposed transversely to the plate pivotally mounted atone end to the plate and adapted to detachably engage the plate with its opposite end.

In a device of the character described, the combination of an oblong plate, lateral extensions upon an intermediate portion of the plate provided With parallel longitudinally disposed slots, a resilient arm integral with one end of the plate, means upon the free end of the armfor detachably engaging. theother end of the plate, a curved resilient strap pivotally' engaging one eX- signature.
