CAMILLO DINUCCIO, O'F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BOW-HOLDING- PIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1914.
Application filed April 7, 1913. Serial No. 759,306.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CAMILLo DINUCGIO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Bow-Holding Pins, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bow holding pins, and the primary object thereof is to provide a pin of the character specified which has novel means for securing the bow in position.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, the bow being shown in dotted lines and the band which holds the bow in posit-ion, being shown in detached relation to the holder. Fig. 2 is an edge view of Fig. 1 on a reduced scale, the band 15 being omitted. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the body of the holder is formed.
The body 1 of the holder consists of a sheet metal plate which has perforated ears 2 strucleout from one end thereof, the ears being bent to extend at right angles to the body, and being arranged in parallel relation to receive a pin tongue 3 which is pivoted to said ears by means of a rivet 4. The pin 3 engages with the garment of the wearer, and serves to secure the holder thereon. A lip 5 is also struck out from the body 1 and is curved toward the ears 2, the free end of the lip being notched at 6 to provide a seat for the pin tongue 3, in order to tension the latter, when the pin tongue is en gaged with the keeper 7 that is struck-out from the opposite end of the body. The pin tongue 3 and related parts all extend on the rear side or face of the body 1.
Intermediate the ends of the body 1 a pair of perforated ears 8 are struck-out and extend on the front face of the body in parallel relation to pivotally receive a short pin tongue 9, which latter is tensioned by a lip 10, that is similar to the lip 5, and like the latter is struck-out from the body 1, but extends on the front face of the latter. A keeper 11 for the pin tongue 9 is also struckout from the body 1 to extend on the front face of the latter.
The top and bottom edges of the central portion of the body are provided with integral extensions 12 that are each formed the teeth 14 to enter with a pair of spaced struck-out inner teeth 13 which extend on the front face of the body, and an outer tooth 14, which latter are located in the spaces between the teeth 13. It will be observed that the pin 9 when in operative position extends between the two series of teeth 13, and therebyforces the bow inwardly toward said teeth in order to permit the latter to bite into the bow to se cure same against movement.
A band 15 which is of substantially U- shape, and is preferably ornament-ed in any desired manner, has triangular openings 16 formed in its free ends, which openings are for the purpose of receiving the teeth 14, the baud being formed of spring material, so that same may be compressed, at its free ends, and then permitted to expand to cause the openings 16, thereof, whereby the band is held onto the holder by the resilient properties of the material of which same is constructed. It will also be noted that the band which engages over the center of the bow, will force the latter inwardly to cause the teeth 13 to enter the bow to thereby retain the latter in position.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, a bow holding device formed of a body and a U-shaped bow engaging element, said body being formed with a pair of spaced openings, which extend entirely through the front and rear faces of the body and being further formed with struck-out teeth which extend outwardly from the body at the inner sides of the openings and with a pair of struckout teeth which extend inwardly from the respective centers of the outer side walls of the openings, said bow engaging element having its free ends passed through said openings and having apertures to receive said pair of teeth, the first named teeth being disposed in the space between the legs of the U-shaped element.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OAMILLO DIN UCCIO.
