Be it known that l, A Lnicn'r G'. Srmu'r` a citizen of the United States, resid ing at At tleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and use- *fullmproi-'ements in Girdles, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had I'therein to tno accompanying drawings. l My invention relates to girdles haring expansive qualities and adapted to facile adjustg'ability to accommodate itself to the varied di- 'mensions of a variety of wear-ers. lts objects are to attain the ends above suggested withoutv involving any disclosure of the elastic ymeans-after the girdle is applied to the body in extended position. An additional purpose is to furnish a read i ly-adjustable and j'ierfectlysecure means of retaining the ends of thel clastic member.

'My new girdle comprises a series of slidlyrinterlocked links A, connected by an elas- 'jtrc'f webbing B. ln detail each plate A has {prefe'rably a nearly-rectangular body with an ornamental face. A n oblong i n wa rd ly-c u rved hook e projects rearwardly from one of the :'ia'rgins of each plate and is provided with a jfertjcal slot Near its opposite margin each platelias an oblong perforation C, which is converted at its extremities into inwardly-directed cuts which form pockets (Z at rightan- `=gles to the openingc. The links A are joined in series by engaging their hooks a through the perforations c of each link, the hooks bemg in each case rearwardly direc-ted.

It will be observed that the depth of the 7G pockets (Z, while suf'cient to admit of a liberal expansion of the-adjacent links A, nevertheless are suiiciently restricted in dimension to prevent any intervening space between the adjacent links A when the girdle is expanded, it being imperative in ornamental metallic girdles that no be visible.

-The possibilities of adj ustability in the above structure is extensive, yet should a radical change in the length of the girdle be called for one or more of the links A may be engaged or disengaged, and the elastic webbing B may bc lengthened or shortened by a renewed frictional adjustment in the terminal hook members C. The adjustments are speedily attained and without any defacement of the parts, since all parts of the structure are united either by friction or hooks and all solder dispensed with. l-laving described my invention, what I claim is- 1. As an 4article of manufacture, a girdle comprising inter-locked plate-sections overlapped and having rearwardly-extending portions, and a tlexible connection engaging the rearward ly-extending portions of the sections, said eo-rn=fetion being covered by the plates.

As an' article of manufacture, a girdle comprising sections, each provided at one end vwith an opening and at the other end with a hook portion that passes through the opening 0f -the adjacent section, said hook portions being provided with openings, and ,a flexible extensible strap extending longitudinally almig the sections and passing through the openings in the hook portions thereof.
