APRON-CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1905.
Application filed April 7. 1904. Serial No. 201,984.
1'0 III/72,0721, [23 721/01 oncern/r Be it known thatI, ALBERT N. Finns, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Cincinnati,
in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, 1 have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Apron-Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it api pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in apron-clasps. One of its vide a simple, strong, and readily-constructed clasp which will lirmly 'hold the apron or other garment in place and can be readily applied and detached.
Another object is to provide such an article which while lirmlyholdingthe garmentin place is not liable to injure or tear the garment.
It further consists in certain details of form, combination, and arrangement, all of which objects is to prowill be more fully set forth in the description l of the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figurel is a plan view of my improved clasp. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the manner of clasping the garment. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. at is a section on line w w of Fig. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the clasp is formed.
A represents the clasp formed of sheetmetal i and of which two are attached at opposite ends of a flexible band or tape B, preferably of elastic material. The clasps are composed of a shank O, having a slot 0 for the attachment of the tape, and a loop or hook D, the free limb 1d tapering slightly relative to the limb 1?.
E represents an ear or side of the limb (7, which is bent at right angles thereto, as indicated in Figs. 3 and at. This car is shaped so as to form a narrow V- shaped opening f between the outer edge of the ear and the spring-limb (Z, into which the garment wedges and is pressure of the limb (Z.
held by the spring- The clasp is applied by drawing that portion of the garment to which it is to be attached into the recess between the limbs (Z (1 and is readily detached by drawing it in the reverse direction, and without liabilityot' injuring the goods it lirmly holds the garment in place. It is particularly applicable in place of strings for holding aprons in place, as the clasp may be detached when the apron is being laundered, thus avoiding the tendency to tear ofl the strings and injure the aprons in the laundry.
The clasp herein shown and described is capable of considerable modification without departing from the principle of my invention.
llaving described my invention, what I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a garmen tclasp consisting of a shank and means for attaching a tape thereto, a U-shaped hook, an elongated ear turned up from the edge of one limb of the hook toward the opposite limb so as to form through the length of the car a tapering recess in which the garment is wedged and held.
2. A garment-clasp having a shank and means for attaching a tape thereto, a hook having an ear formed integral with and projecting from one limb of the hook toward the 1 opposite limb thereof so as to form through projection at one the length of theeara tapering recess between the ear and said opposite member.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a garment-clasp having a shank and means for attaching a tape thereto. a spring-hook having an ear projecting from one hook member to form with the opposite hook member through the length of the ear a tapering recess in which the garment is caught and held.
In testimony whereof I have atfixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT N. FRIES. \V i tnesses:
C. \V. MILES, A. MoComt-ick.
