UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM A. RICHARDSON, OF PROVIDENCE, RI-IODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE NARRAGANSETT CARD COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DISPLAY-CARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 549,613, dated November 12, 1895.
Application filed February 15, 1895. $eria1N0. 538,567. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. RICHARD- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cards; and I do declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to display-cards, and more particularly to cards for displaying link sleeve-buttons of the rigid-post type.
The object of the invention is to provide a card to which the buttons may be easily secured and which will display them to the public as they would appear in use on sleeves or cuffs; furthermore, to provide a display-card which shall be simple of construction and which may be stamped from a single piece of material in a single operation.
WVith these objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention, illustrating the application of the sleeve buttons thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the card before the sleeve-buttons are attached. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the sleeve-buttons for which the card is particularly designed, showing the head of the button swung back.
1 denotes a strip of cardboard or any other suitable material having any desired outline.-
This strip is cut longitudinally from 2 to 3 and transverely from 4 to 4 to form the flaps 6 6, in which are formed elliptical or elongated apertures 7, the apertures of one flap being in a horizontal line with those in the other flap.
In applying the sleeve-buttons shown in Fig. 3, I swing one of the heads back, as shown in said figure, compress the card at its side edges, so as to cause the flaps to spring out, and then insert the head that is swung back through the apertures in the flaps, and then swing it back to its proper or normal position. The flaps will then be held away from the body of the card and will assume practically the same position as the edges of the sleeve or cuffs, thus displaying the buttons to the best advantage to the public.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A display card having its body slitted longitudinally and transversely to form flaps, the side edges of which project toward each other, said flaps provided with elongated or elliptical apertures, the apertures of one flap being in the same horizontal line as the apertures in the other flap, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix. my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. RICHARDSON.
