SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 229,617, dated July 6, 1880.

Application filed March 8, 1880.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PERLEY LAFLIN, of Warren, in the county of Worcester and Oom monwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in (lorset-Glasps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure I represents a top or plan view of a set of my improved corset-clasps when laid down and a front view when held up, (one of the old style of clasps being shown at the bottom,) as will be hereinafter more fully described. Fig. 2 represents a section on line A B, looking in the direction of arrow 1, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 represents a section on line 0 D, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of arrow 2, same figure.

To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.

In the drawings myinvention is represented quite fully, and the nature of which invention consists of a slotted spring-holder, in combination with a rigid headed holding-pin, substantially as hereinafter described.

The part marked E represents one of the corsetsteels, to which the base of the slotted spring-holder G is fastened by means of rivets a, a. The base G of the slotted springholder G may be made with slots where the rivets a passthrough it, as indicated in Fig. 1, so that said part can be adjusted back and forth at the time it is fastened in position to the steel E, or it may be made in the form shown at H, Fig. 1. The spring holder or clasp G is made with a slot, 0, for the passage of thepin b, and also with a projection, d, to hold the pin in place after its head b has been slipped through slot 0 and over projection 07, the end 6 being depressed as head b is pushed over projection d. Pins 12 are fastened to the (ModeL) steel F, having holding shoulders or heads I) b, one on each side of the steel in this instance; but they may be fastened in any other suitable manner, if preferred.

By making the clasp in the form described a very secure and perfect holding-clasp for corsets is obtained, and one, too, which enables the steels to be brought close together and there held, while they are very easily detached or separated by the wearer simply depressing the ends e, so as to allow the heads I) of holding-pins b to slip over the projection d.

My holding springs or clasps are not liable to become detached while in use, nor are they liable to get out of order, and the steels do not have to be twisted in fastening or unfastening 'the same.

A clasp or fastening representing one of the old styles in use previous to my said invention is represented in Fig. 1, and marked by letters a, b, c, and I I. From examination of this old clasp it will be seen that my invention holds the steels much more perfectly and surely and closely together than when such old clasp is used.

In applying my clasps the wearer has only to push the holding-pins through slots 0 and over projections d, and the corset is securely fastened about the person.

Having described myimproved corset clasp or holder, what I claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with the slotted spring clasps or holders G G, of the headed holdingpins I), constructed substantially as described.

2. The combination, with steel E, of slotted spring clasp G G, provided with projection 61 and spring-point e, for the purposes stated.
