HOLDER FDR SCISSORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,277, dated August 18, 1896. Application filed November 11, 1895. Serial No. 568,601. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMELIA D. POLSGRO'VE, of Huntingdon, in the county of I-Iuntingdon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Scissors, of which the following is a specificaiion.
This invention relates to devices for holding scissors, and is designed for the use of store-clerks, seamstresses, barbers, nurses, and others who frequently employ scissors or shears.
It consists of a holding-plate provided on its rear face with a pin for securing it to the clothing, and on the front face with a band to receive the shears.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters marked thereon, forming a part of this specification, the same letters indicating the same parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.
Of the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved scissors-holder, the scissors being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a top plan View showing the rear face of the holder.
In carrying out my invention I employ a supporting-plate at, having its ends bent under or formed as beads 12 b, which are adapted to rest against the clothing and hold the plate a small distance therefrom. Upon the front face of the supporting-plate Isecure a band, hoop, or collar 0, which is elliptical in shape and of a size to receive the scissors and support them, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The holder proper or band 0 is secured to the supporting plate byarivet; but I have contemplated securing it in other Ways as well. Upon the rear face of the supporting-plate I secure by soldering or otherwise a pin d, which is bent into a spring at f. The free end of the pin may be passed through the clothing and then caught in the hook e, which is formed by the other end. A scissors-holder formed in this way is highly efficient and serviceable for the purposes for which it is intended. The scissors are placed loosely in the holder and are supported therein in such way that they may be easily withdrawn for use when wanted.
The plate fits closely against the clothing, since the ends are bent under or beaded, and thepin or other fastening device is secured to the rear of the plate in such way as to lie practically within the planes of the body of the plate and the bent-under ends thereof. That is to say, the ends of the plate are bent under to such a distance that when the pin is fastened in the clothing the plate will be held firmly against movement.
I have contemplated constructing my scissors-holder in other ways, as of wire, and therefore do not limit myself to the exact shape shown and described.
Having-thus explained the nature of the invention and described a way of constructing and using the same, though without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made or all of the modes of its use, it is declared that what is claimed is 1. A scissors-holder consisting of asupporting-plate having upon its front face a loop or ban d to receive the scissors, and a pin attached to the rear face of the supporting-plate, the ends of the said plate being bent rearwardly and inwardly to form beads, 19, by which the body of the plate is held away from the material to which it is attached, substantially as set forth.
2. A scissors-holder consisting of a supporting-plate having upon one face aloop or band, 0, to receive the scissors and having its ends bent rearwardly and inwardly to form two beads, b, and a pin attached to the supporting-plate between and lying in the planes of said beads, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 1st day of November, A. D. 1895.
AMELIA D. POLSGROVE.
