CARTRIDGE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,840, dated March 15, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, DENNIS LANE, of the city of Kirkwood, county of St. Louis, and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cartridge-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in cartridge-holders; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my complete invention as attached to a belt, showing the cartridge placed therein, in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the holder having the securing device detached therefrom. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line so so of Fig. 1, and Fig. dis a perspective view of the device which I employ in securing the holder to the belt.

The object of my invention is to construct a novel and simplified construction in cartridge-holders, and means for securing the same to a belt, whereby the cartridge can be easily placed within the said holder and removed. By the use of my invention it is impossible for the cartridge to fall out of the same after being placed therein, as the said holder is constructed in the form of a clasp, the details in the construction of which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a belt, and 2 the holder which is carried by the same. The cartridge-holder 2 is formed of a single piece of metal, and by preferenceI use steel, whereby the sides of the said holder are made flexible. A holder thus constructed without any further device or devices would be without a top and bottom, there being no necessity for a top, as the cartridge is inserted at that end; but in practice it has been found desirable to provide the said holder with a bottom, in order that there will be no possible danger of the cartridge falling out of the holder should the sides 3 not clamp the cartridge sufficiently. In the rear of the holder 2, or that portion of the same which comes in contact with the belt 1, are two openings 4 4,

within which openings the ends of the plate curing-loop, is also made of thin steel, the,

upper end of which is sufiiciently bent in order to afford sufficient space for the belt, the said end terminating into an enlargement 8 and which is parallel with the plate 5. The lower end of the plate 5 is bent at right angles with said plate and also terminates into an enlargement 9, which forms a bottom for the holder, and thereby supports the cartridge when the same is placed in the holder. By the construction of the plate 5 as above described a loop 10 is formed, through which the belt 1 is passed transversely, and the said holder is therefore adjustable on said belt.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the enlargement 8, formed upon the upper end of the plate 5, will also bear upon the cartridge when the same is placed in the holder.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- 1. Acartridge-holder consisting of a holder provided in its back with transverse slots, and a securing-plate having inwardly-projecting ends passed through said slots, the upper of said ends being bent upwardly parallel with the back of the holder, and the other end projected across the bottom of the latter to form a support, substantially as set forth.
