Be it known that I, NICOLA CERRI, a subject of the King of Italy, resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cuff-Protectors, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.

My invention relates to means for protecting the cuffs of shirts, shirtwaists and the like, its object being to provide a structure which will be economical of manufacture, readily attached and detached, and which will protect the cuff against wear and also against soiling.

The said invention furthermore consists in certain modifications and improvements of the device described and claimed in my i Patent No. 955,631, issued April 19, 1910.

My present invention consists of means hereinafter fully described and particularly set forth in the claim.

In the annexed drawing, the figure is a perspective view of a cuff protector embodying my invention.

The protector A, embodying my present invention, comprises an outside Hap a and inside flap a, which are connected at their outer ends to form one integral structure, the two flaps being substantially parallel to each other and being adapted to be slipped over the front end of the cuE, in the usual manner, and as will be readily understood.

Referring to the form illustrated in the figure, the one end portion of the protector is provided with an incision a2 which intersects the circumferential inner edge as of the outer flap, such incision being in the form of a bayonet slot and adapted to engage the link of the cuff button. In the drawing, this slot is shown as being formed in the outside flap, which is the preferable form, but, as will be understood, it may be formed upon the inside flap instead, if desired. The other end of the protector is provided with a continuous and unbroken circumferential inner edge, as shown, either on the inside flap or the outside flap, so that such end may engage the cuE loosely and move freely in the circumferential direction of the protector. The other end of the protector is intersected by an incision or slot a5, extending in the circumferential direction, of the protector, which is preferably enlarged at its inner end. As shown in the drawing, the outer flap is so provided, but, as will be readily understood, the incision may be applied to the inner flap. This slot is caused to engage the other side of the link of the cuif button, and extending in the manner described permits the corresponding end of the protector to move in such circumferential direction, thereby permitting it to adjust itself to various sizes of cuifs. A greater range of application is therefore permitted this style of protector than in previous conceptions of which I am aware, including the structure shown and described in my above-mentioned patent. The inner end of the bayonet slot a2 prevents the unpremeditated removal of the corresponding end of the protector, as will be readily understood. The other end of the protector, that is, the one provided with the slot a5, is also prevented from becoming disconnected unpremeditatedly from the cuf in a direction transverse to the circumferential direction of the protector, so that the one end is secured against unpremeditated removal in the one direction, and the other end in the other directiona wide range of application to dii'erent sizes of cuffs being at the same timev permitted.

In the application of my invention, that end of the protector provided with the slot or incision a5 is preferably first secured to the link. In removing the protector, the link is pushed back in the slot a2, and the incision a2 is first removed from the cu. In practice, the slot a2 is the one which would be used on the outside of the cuff, the reason for this being that the entire outside of the cufl:l will be covered and present a neat appearance, while this would not be true if the slot a5 were on the outside. In accordance with the above, the protector shown is the one intended for the left cu'.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
