J. W. ROSENTHAL.
VEST. I No. 251,295. Patented Dec. 20,1881.
min 953595: Inga nf i Z I Jam/l a5. 5f 71 M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH W. ROSENTHAL, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
VEST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,295, dated December 20, 1881.
Application filed September 27, 1881. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J USEPH W. ROSENT HAL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vests; and I do hereby-declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in vests for men and boys wear, and has for its object to provide a collar which may be worn exposed to view, or which may be turned inside next to the vest-lining. In the former case the vest is of the regular turn-over-collar style, and in the latter nothing is seen but the finished edge of the no-collar style.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a front view of a vest to which myimprovement is applied. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a view of a collar. detached. Fig. 4 is a view showing a section of the finished edge and supplemental collar. Fig. 5 is an inner side view of one-halt of the vest in which the collar is shown folded within. Fig. 6 is an inner side view of one-halfof the vest in which the collar is shown attached by buttons and has astanding position. Fig. 7 is an outer side view of the vest, in which a collar like that shown in Figsv l, 2, and 4 is folded over outside.
The letter A designates the front outside part of the vest; A, the front inside part. That part of the vest at the open front extending from the breast around the neck has a finished edge, b, constituting it a vest ot' the nocollar style, and may be so worn. Upon the inner side of the vest-front, and on a line 00- inciding with the edge b, but a short distance from said edge, is the row of stitching c, which arrangement the one vest may be worn as a no-collar or as a turn-over collar. The outer side, (1, of the supplemental collar exposes the same cloth or material as that of which the vest is made. The inner side, d, may be lined with silk or other material, so that the collar may be worn, when traveling or atother times, standing, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the exposure of the silk lining giving it the appear ance of a scarf placed about the neck and partly under the vest.
The broken lines in Figs. 1 and 2 indicate the position of the supplemental collar when folded within.
Figs. 3 and 6 show a form of supplemental collar which may be wholly detached. The means of securing this collar may he by buttons, as shown, or by hooks and eyes, orother device.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States- A vest having a finished edge, b, extending from the open breast part up the breast-front and around the neck no-collar style, and provided with a supplemental collar attached by a row of stitching on the inner side a short distance from the finished edge, and having a break, 0, on a line coinciding with the finished edge, adapting it, when folded over outside, to set astride thereof, whereby the vest may be worn either as a no-collar or as a turn-over collar. as set forth.
In testimony whereof I alliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH WILLIS ROSEX'IIIAL.
