Abstract

In order to be able properly to connect together two three-phase power systems or to be able to connect a generator to the three-phase power system, there must be synchronism. This is given when the voltages, the frequencies, the phase angle and the phase sequence of the voltages are equal. Since the frequencies always have a slight difference, a beat occurs. Thus, synchronization is in each case only possible at a certain time. The known synchronization methods and devices have the disadvantage that switching does not occur optimally at the synchronization time. The method according to the invention is based on a cyclic digital detection of the duration of the period (F0, F1) and the phase shift (P0, P1) between two square wave signals (1, 2) which have the same phase as the alternating voltages. In each cycle (8), a counter (23) counts from one to the next but one edge of one square wave signal (1), then from this edge to the next equivalent edge of the other square wave signal (2). Then counting takes place from this edge to the next but one edge of this square wave signal (2) and lastly to the next equivalent edge of one square wave signal (1). The next synchronization time is calculated by means of a program in the process computer from the stored counts. The novel method can be used for switching more accurately at the synchronization time when the switching delay times are included. <IMAGE>
