Abstract

[Also in Division G2] An apparatus for producing a visual signal comprises a transparent body 10, an indicator part 15 behind the body, and means adapted to displace the indicator part between non- co-operating and co-operating end positions, the body being substantially symmetrical about an axis and having a planar or slightly convex front face surface 9 which is substantially symmetrical to the axis, the rear part of the body containing one or more light-reflecting surfaces 11 or (17) inclined to the axis at an angle of 40 to 50 degrees, and the indicator part having at least one coloured surface 16. In the co-operating position (but not in the non-co-operating position) light rays entering the body from outside through the front face surface, impinge on the said coloured surface or surfaces of the said part, and are then reflected by the reflecting surface or surfaces through the said front face surface out of the body, so that in the cooperating position of the part the front face surface emits coloured light rays. The transparent body may have one or more conical reflecting surfaces. The indicator part may be opaque and adapted to be positioned, in the co-operating position, against the transparent body, or transparent and adapted to be inserted in a groove in the transparent body. The indicator part is preferably moved by a pneumatic diaphragm or piston, although other means may be used.
