[Also in Division G4] The opaque periphery of a counter drum 4 is encompassed by a transparent cylinder 2 with indicia 3 applied to its concave surface and a bulb 5 direct s light on to the cylinder 2 at such an angle to the tangent at the point of incidence that those rays which enter the cylinder by refraction have nearly critical angles of incidence on subsequent reflection. Upon rotation of the drum 4 the indicia 3 can be located in register with a viewing aperture in a mask 1.
