1303503 Optical display apparatus PILKINGTON PERKIN - ELMER Ltd 15 July 1971 [7 May 1970] 22028/70 Heading G2J An optical display system has a primary optical axis 2 along which light can travel towards an observer E, a beam-splitter 5 positioned on the primary optical axis and having a partially reflecting interface 6 and a front face 5A downstream, as considered in the direction of travel of light along the optical axis 2, and a display source 7 positioned off the primary optical axis and so that light therefore enters block 5, is internally reflected from front surface 5A, then reflected from interface 6 along the optical axis. Lenses 4,4' collimate the light. This arrangement may be incorporated into a head-up display, with primary source 1, e.g. cathode-ray tube, and secondary source being projected into the field of view, either singly or together Fig.2 (not shown).
