Abstract

662,569. Electron image tubes. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 25, 1949 [July 14, 1948], No. 13979/49. Addition to 652,451. Class 39 (i). [Also in Group XX] An image intensifier wherein the image produced on a fluorescent screen 3 is reproduced as a smaller but intensified image on a further fluorescent screen 5 is provided with a roofprism 11 for viewing the image from a position at one side of the axis of the intensifier. The prism which is shown in Fig. 2 comprises an input surface 21, 22, 23, 24 and an output surface 21, 25, 28, 26, 27 at right angles to each other, and two reflecting surfaces 22, 23, 26, 27 and 23, 24, 28, 26 whick are also at right angles to each other. Preferably the intersection line of the two reflecting surfaces makes equal angles with the input and output surfaces. All the surfaces may be plane, but preferably the reflecting surfaces are curved outwardly to form concave mirrors and may be coated with silver, and the output surface may be curved to act as a convex lens, the whole then serving to magnify the image. The input surface may be shaped to fit the external surface of the screen 5 of the intensifier and may. be cemented to it. An ancillary optical system 12 may be provided between the observer and the prism.
