Abstract

1,235,344. Colour television. HARRIES ELECTRONICS CORP. 2 Dec., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 58580/68. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] In a colour television system, three tubes 2, 4 and one obscured, produce coloured component images at phosphor screens 10 and the images are projected by concave reflectors 12 through stops 14 to meniscus lenses 16 and are then superimposed on the viewing screen 8. The tubes are arranged symmetrically about the axis of the viewing screen and to prevent keystone distortion a transparent facetted composite corrector plate 6 is positioned as shown. The plate has three limbs and each limb intercepts a projected light beam. Each limb comprises a series of parallel strip facets arranged at right angles to the line which bisects the limb and passes through the central axis of the composite plate 6, and one surface of each strip varies in curvature from point to point in a continuous manner whilst there exist abrupt discontinuities of slope at the junctions between strips. The gradients of, and discontinuities between, the facets are carefully designed to eliminate keystone distortion. A four tube, four limbed corrector plate system is also described.
