Abstract

1373423 Simulators BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 26 Jan 1973 [18 Jan 1972] 2272/72 Heading G2J In apparatus for simulating the appearance of an object against a background, the background scene is illuminated, and an image of the object on a transparency is projected on to the background and viewed through an optical system. As shown, the background scene is provided on a slide 1, which is adjustable in two directions, and illuminated from a lamp 4 via beam-splitter 5. The object is represented by a light-reflecting area 8 on a slide 7, again adjustable in two directions. Light from a lamp 12 passes through the transparent areas of slide 7, passing through a zoom lens 11 and the beam-splitter to fall on slide 1, which is then observed through a viewing system 6. Light from a further lamp 13 is reflected by the beam-splitter on to slide 7. If lamp 13 is shut off, then area 8 will appear on slide 1 as light against a dark background. The strength of the lamps can be varied by variable density filters 14, 15, 16 to vary the contrast. The size of the area 8 on slide 1 can be varied by the zoom lens 11. The apparatus may be used for simulating the appearance of an aircraft in flight.
