Abstract
A system for generating an electrical signal from a composite optical display, for use in gunnery training, has a screen 10, a background projector 12, a target projector 14, and a tracer projector 16. A television camera 20 views the screen. An infra-red blocking filter 18 is arranged in front of the background projector 12 and an infrared pass filter 22 is arranged in front of the camera 20. Thus the camera sees essentially only the light from the target and tracer projectors, enabling the tracer and/or target image to be identified in the camera output by purely electrical means, such as threshold detectors.
