Abstract

606,065. Stereoscopic systems. JEFFREE, J. H., JOHNSON, J., ADAMSON, A. H., and COMBINED OPTICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1946, No. 836. [Class 97 (i)] A viewing device giving a stereoscopic effect comprises a tube 14 containing a system comprising lenses 12, 13 having coincident focal planes, an apertured diaphragm 15 at 45 degrees to the optical axis and perpendicular reflectors 16, 17 each reflecting a part of the beam to eyepieces 20, 21 via mirrors 18, 19, one or both surfaces of the lenses being of the shape formed by rotating a conic section (other than a circle) about its axis. The lens are described as sphero-hyperboloidal. The eyepieces are formed of similar systems to the system 12, 13, but reversed in direction and the diaphragm is located approximately at the focal plane of the lens 13. An auxiliary system comprising lens and two mirrors may be attached to the tube 14 to displace the line of sight from the axis of the lenses 12, 13. Data for the lenses are given. Specification 167,130, [Class 97 (i)], is referred to.
