Abstract

548,159. Stereoscopic systems. MAINARDI, P., and MAINARDI, M. N. Oct. 16, 1941, No. 13349: Convention date, May 22. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] A stereoscopic optical system for two images have their vertical axes in alignment but oppositely directed, comprises a single lens in front of the images, an inner pair of reflectors in front of the lens, and an outer pair of reflectors, the line of intersection between the two inner reflectors being at an acute angle to the principal planes of the lens, and all the reflectors being arranged so that the images are rotated through right angles in opposite directions about the axes of the beams ; the reflectors may be embodied in a camera or projector, or in an attachment therefor. As shown in Fig. 2, the inner reflectors are formed by the internally-reflecting faces of a triangular prism 11 having the line of intersection parallel to a face of the prism inclined to the principal planes of the lens 12 at an angle A. The inclination may be between 5 degrees and 25 degrees and results in a reduction of the angle B between the image plane 13 and the horizontal. The prism 11 may be replaced by two mirrors having their line of intersection towards the lens 12, the angles between the mirrors, and between their line of intersections and the principal planes, being variable. Specification 548,158 is referred to, and features therein are described.
