750,580. Periscopes. LEDUC, R. July 15, 1954 [July 15, 1953], No. 20710/54. Class 97 (1). A device enabling an observer to see through a wall 4, for example, of a high-speed aircraft, when the incident light is at a high mean angle of incidence to the wall, comprises a block with parallel faces 2, 3, the face 2 being inclined to the wall 4 and having one edge coincident with the wall. The block may be replaced by two blocks, respectively providing the faces 2, 3 and having spaced, parallel inner faces perpendicular to the mean direction of light through the block. Also, each of the faces 2, 3 may be replaced by a pair of faces joining in a vertex facing away from the observer, corresponding faces at the two ends of the block being parallel. This arrangement provides a convergence of the light beams reaching the two eyes through the respective parallel pairs of faces and hence an increase of stereoscopic vision. In modifications of this arrangement the surfaces 2 may be carried on separate blocks and the surfaces 3 on a further block or blocks.
