Abstract

505,602. Stereoscopic pictures. WOOD, L. L. , Nov. 15, 1937, No. 31338. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] A stereoscopic picture comprises right and left eye views 10, 11, Fig. 1, of an object mounted side by side, one view being laterally inverted. The picture is viewed by both eyes, before one of which is placed a device such as a prism 13 for effecting lateral inversion, so that the two views may be caused to appear in superposition with stereoscopic effect. The picture may be produced by a camera having a single lens 26, Fig. 2 and provided with a fitting 20 attached to the lens mount, the fitting having two light-entrance apertures and having in one light path a pair of reflecting prisms 23, 24 and in the other light path a reversing prism 25, so that two relatively-reversed images are formed side by side on the plate 27. Alternatively a normal stereoscopic camera may be used with a reversing prism &c. in front of one of the lenses. The invention can be applied to kinematography by producing pairs of views as above on the film and providing each observer with a reversing prism &c. to be placed in front of one eye. Figs. 3 and 4 show the production of an alternative form of picture in which two relatively-reversed prints 30, 31 are first obtained and then the parts B, B<1> are removed and the parts A, A<1> are fitted together to form a composite picture.
