Abstract
237,349. Jarnier, J. H. April 25, 1924. Stereoscopic kinematography.-A camera comprises two laterally-spaced objectives, one of which is higher than the other, and means for bringing the images produced thereby one above the other on the film : constructions of apparatus for viewing the projected images are described and claimed. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, laterally-spaced objectives 2, 2<1>, one higher than the other, are combined with prisms 3, 3<1> to produce images one above the other and separated by a small space, the two images and the space occupying the space of one ordinary image. The images of each pair are projected simultaneously by an ordinary projector at the usual speed. Fig. 4 shows a section through one. eye-piece of an apparatus for viewing the projected image. Each eye piece contains a prism 11, the edges of the two prisms being oppositely directed, and both prisms being rotatable to enable the images to be seen in superposition. As shown, a diaphragm 22 is provided for each eyepiece, one at the lower part of one eyepiece and the other at the upper part of the other eyepiece, to eliminate the parasitic images. In a modification, the diaphragms are replaced by hinged shutters. In a further modification, the viewing apparatus comprises, for each eye, a pair of prisms, one fixed and one movable., the prisms having reflecting surfaces at 45‹ to the incident light and being combined with sliding shutters to eliminate the parasitic images.
