Colour photography.-Relales to apparatus for determining what are the appropriate colours or shades to be used in the production of coloured pictures or designs of posters, cretonnes &c. or in the production of designs or scenic effects. and consists in taking a number of negatives of the picture &c. each of which shows only those parts which are of one particular colour or shade, preparing from these negatives positive transparencies, and projecting these positives on a screen from an apparatus in which the colour and luminosity can be varied, so that a satisfactory blend of colours or shades can be found and the corresponding colours and luminosities noted. The negatives are taken. on a single plate, and positives are prepared on a plate 18, Fig. 1, which is introduced between condensing lenses 13 and projecting lenses 14 of a projecting apparatus, the light from the illuminator 10 of which passes through a glass heat-screen 15, and either is refracted through a system of prisms 11, or is reflected from a mirror or a system of mirrors. An iris diaphragm 16 and a colour screen 17<1> are arranged in front of each projecting lens. The light issuing from the, projecting lenses 14 mav be again refracted through a plano-concave lens 19, Fig. 4, to increase the size and distance of projection of the projected image. Caps 24 are provided for the projectors which enable the apparatus to be used also as a camera. The ratio of the sizes of the, negatives and positives is the same as the ratio between the focal lengths of the camera and projecting lenses.
