Abstract

711,367. Optical apparatus. WILSON, R..G., and SILVER, W. D. July 9, 1952 [July 30, 1951], No. 17972/51. Class 97(1) Pictures of a stereoscope pair are viewed in. superposition, directly or after projection, using a light combining system consisting of two right angled prisms with their hypotenuse faces slightly spaced. As shown, a mirror 3 is arranged parallel to the hypotenuse faces of the prisms 1, 2. Transparencies in holders 4, 5 are illuminated by a lamp 6 in a holder 7 and viewed through a lens 9. Diffusing screens may be associated with the transparencies. Opaque pictures may be viewed if illuminated through a transparent area in the base supporting the optical elements. The lamps may have heat and colour filters. The two pictures may be optically projected. The projector may have a single optical system and use a film with left and right eye pictures on the two halves of a single frame or have two optical systems and images in separate film frames. The images are preferably formed on diffusing surfaces on the faces of the prisms 1, 2. Mirrors in one or both projection beams provide equal light paths and may be adjustable to provide adjustment of one or both projected images.
