Abstract
626,447. Optical apparatus. BERNARD, M. E. April 23, 1945, No. 10154. Convention date, June 29, 1943. [Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for viewing kinematographic and other small films comprises a closed rectangular box with a film support at one side and a binocular optical viewing system at the other, the latter having a field of view of about 45 degrees and a magnification of at least 5 to give a proper perspective when viewing images on 35 mm. film. The casing A, Fig. 5, contains a guide C for the film H ,a ground glass D for illumination and eyepieces B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> with prisms P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP>. A plano-convex glass E gives added magnification but both the glass E and the prisms may be omitted. The distance between the eypieces may be adjusted by a screw (not shown). As shown in Fig. 7 the casing A has a surface G carrying a pair of binoculars L<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP>, a lens E and reflecting prism system P, Q, permitting each eye to view the film. For opaque pictures a rotatable mirror R reflects light on to the picture C. Instead of the prism system PQ mirrors may be used or the system omitted and the axis of the telescopes L<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP> made to converge on to the picture.
