677,639. Reflex view-flnders for photographic cameras. TELEMACO CORSI. May 9, 1949 [March 22, 1949], No. 12289/49. Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i). A reflex view-finder for a photographic or motion-picture camera of the kind in which the image for focusing and framing is provided by the camera lens 1 comprises a movable mirror 2 to reflect the image beam formed by the camera lens towards a ground glass surface 4 on which the image is formed, and a pentagonal prism modified in that one of the reflecting surfaces 5 thereof is convex outwards, so as to provide for an enlargement of the image in the path of the light beam within the prism in which the image is re-inverted to be viewed by an observer. Preferably, another reflecting face of the prism is formed by two faces intersecting at right-angles in a line 3. When the entry face 4 is plane it may be ground to receive the image. When the entry face 4 is convex or concave, the image is formed on an adjacent ground glass screen. The exit face 6 may be plane, convex, or concave. The prism may be in one piece, or may be made up of several pieces cemented together. Lens elements may be cemented to the block to form the curved faces, each lens having two parts of different refractive indices to correct aberrations. A compensating astigmatic eye-piece may be interposed between the prism and the observer's eye. The reflecting, surface 5 may be cylindrical, the exit surface 6 being also cylindrical with its axis perpendicular to that of surface 5.
