Abstract
634,890. Stereoscopic photography and kinematography. DUDLEY, L. P. C. J. Oct. 2, 1947, No. 26611. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] An optical device constituting a temporary or permanent attachment fo a single-lens camera for use in the production of stereoscopic anaglyphs comprises spaced reflecting means and two complementary colour filters, one in association with each of the reflecting means, the arrangement being such that light from the object which passes through one colour filter is reflected by one of said reflecting means to form a latent image of the left-eye view of the object on a film or plate in the camera while light passing through the other filter is reflected by the other of said means to form on the film or plate a latent image of the right-eye view, which image is superimposed on that of the left-eye view. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the optical device comprises filters 1, 2 of complementary colours, a half-silvered mirror 3 and a frontsurfaced mirror 4. Mirror 3 transmits light from filter 1 and reflects to an equal extent the light from mirror 4, this light then passing through the camera lens 5 on to the photographic film or plate therein. Mirror 4 may be replaced by a 45 degree prism, while mirror 3 may be replaced by two 45 degree prisms with their hypotenuse faces in contact and with one of such faces half-silvered. These prisms may be joined as by cement to an intermediate block, as of glass; this block may also be made integral with the prism 4 and the 45 degree prism with the half-silvered hypotenuse face. In another form, the device may comprise filters 10, 13, Fig. 6, and mirror or prism pairs 11, 12 and 14, 15, respectively. The stereoscopic base may be adjusted by sliding one of the prisms relatively to the other as by a rack and pinion mechanism. Also, one of the prisms or mirrors may be pivoted about a vertical axis and such pivoted movement may be coupled to the focusing movement of the convex lens. Thus, mirror or prism 4, Fig. 1, may be attached to an arm capable of swinging on a rack as the latter is moved by a pinion attached to the focusing ring of the camera lens. The device may be carried in a housing which is secured by lugs to a bracket having a boss that threads into the usual lens holder of the camera; this housing may also carry a lens for substitution for the ordinary camera lens. The device may also be built into the camera.
