Abstract

1,041,666. Stereoscopic cine apparatus. K. SCHENK. July 11, 1963 [July 11, 1962], No. 27482/63. Headings G2E and G2J. Apparatus for enhancing the stereoscopic effect produced by receiving cine pictures through a pair of spectacles in which one lens absorbs light to a greater degree, say 70-80%. than the other, comprising transparent strips 1, 3 covering the left and right hand edges of the picture which polarize the light such that the superimposed strips pass no light, a polarizing filter 12 in the left lens the same as strip 3 and a polarizing filter 13 in the right lens the same as strip 1. The filters may be linearly or circularly polarized. The axes of the spectacles lenses converge and comprise inclined prisms of 1 to 3 prism dioptres power. This system is said to impart a convergent position to the eyes corresponding to the frame 1, 3, 5, 6 being displaced towards the observer and so to provide an added 3-D effect. The upper and lower strips 5, 6 polarize in the same sense a strips 1, 3, respectively.
