[Class 97 (i).] Apparatus for viewing stereoscopic pairs of pictures comprises a holder for the pictures, and a single converging lens, or mirror, or equivalent converging system, so placed as to produce aerial images of the pictures between the eye of the observer and the lens &c. ; more than one pair of pictures may be used in conjunction with one lens &c. for observation by a corresponding number of observers, and the pictures may be kinematographic. When viewing the pictures, the observer converges his eyes upon the lens &c., and assumes a position such that overlapping images of the members of the pair are seen in relief within, and preferably filling, the lens &c. aperture. As shown in Fig. 1, a lens l forms images r, r<1>, r<2> of picture pairs p, p<1>, p<2> for observers o, o<1>, o<2>. The picture pair p may be laterally displaced, as shown in Fig. 2, a plane mirror m<2> being provided for viewing, or an image of the picture pair produced by a lens may be substituted for the picture pair. Multiple images of the pictures may be projected on to a screen n, Fig. 4, and without enlargement, from a kinematograph film, by means of a projector a having a large number of small projection lenses in place of the usual lens ; aerial images of the images on the screen, produced by a concave mirror m, may be viewed by a large number of observers. The mirror m may be made in sections.
