Abstract

A plaster is produced by mixing together, in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:5 to form a dry homogeneous mixture, disintegrated cellulose waste having fibres up to 4 mm. in length, and aluminosilicate-containing minerals capable of swelling in water and reduced to a particle size of up to 100 microns, and adding to the mixture organic high molecular weight polymers as binders in the form of water-soluble or water-dispersible powders, and finally compressing the mixture at 30-200 kg/cm.2 to effect conglomeration. The cellulose may be paper or cotton; specified aluminosilicates are bentonite, kaolin or white clay; specified organic polymers are polyvinyl acetate and polystyrene. Pigments and mineral binders, e.g. chalk, white cement or gypsum, may be present. For use, the plaster is swollen in water, and then homogenized with more water to the required consistency. It is stated that 1m3 of the dry plaster yields 6 tons after dilution with water.ALSO:A plaster is produced by mixing together, in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:5 to form a dry homogeneous mixture, disintegrated cellulose waste having fibres up to 4 mm. in length, and aluminosilicate-containing minerals capable of swelling in water and reduced to a particle size of up to 100 microns, and adding to the mixture organic high molecular weight polymers as binders in the form of water soluble or water-dispersible powders, and finally compressing the mixture at 30-200 kg/cm.2 to effect conglomeration.
