Abstract
568,621. Mould materials. SINGER, F., and BECKEN, F. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 16460. [Class 83 (i)] Foundry sand is made by coating sand particles with a stable colloidal dispersion of clay. 94 parts by weight of sand, 6 of Scotch fireclay, ground dry to 200 mesh fineness, 0.006 of sodium silicate, and 4 of water may be mixed, without any grinding or crushing action, for 5 minutes. The sodium silicate may be replaced by another deflocculant or be used in conjunction with sodium or ammonium oxalate. If a high green strength is required, a small proportion of a clay-flocculating agent, such as an acid or a salt of calcium, magnesium, or aluminium, may be added, thus, 0.006 parts of aluminium sulphate may be added to the above mixture and mixing be continued for another 5 minutes. Specification 440,794, [Group II], is referred to.
