Abstract

1,024,146. Hydrocyclone. BAUER BROS. CO. Feb. 23, 1965 [March 23, 1964], No. 7766/65. Heading B2P. A hydrocyclone-type separator for deaerating a liquid slurry, e.g. for paper-making, comprises a vessel 10 of circular cross-section to which the slurry is fed through a tangential inlet 22 and from which acceptable and rejected slurryfractions are discharged through outlets 21 and 17 respectively with the formation of an air core 26 extending coaxially throughout the vessel, an elutriation device 14 connected to the outlet 17 into which the rejected-slurry, fraction is received and through which the air core extends, and a reduced-pressure chamber 35 in air-tight communication with the elutriation device 14 and connected at 41 to a source of vacuum so as to be evacuated at a lower pressure than the pressure in the air core 26. The elutriation device 14 is fed with supplemental liquid through a tangential downwardlyinclined opening 33. A duct 36 connecting the device 14 to the chamber 35 may be provided with a wear-resistant liner 37. Rejected slurry is continuously or selectively withdrawn from the chamber 35 through an outlet 39.
