Abstract
952,472. Centrifugal separators. BAUER BROS. CO. June 27, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 22518/60. Heading B2P. [Also in Division D2] Apparatus for cleaning a liquid stock, containing acceptable and rejectable solids in suspension, comprises a primary cleaner 26 connected to discharge rejectable material into a secondary cleaner 27, and a cleaner 10 interposed in the flow path between primary and secondary cleaners. The cleaner 10 is provided with a duct 25 connected to a vacuum applying means, and is operated with a liquid level 19 under a lower pressure drop and higher flow rate than in the cleaner 26. The cleaner 10 has a tangential inlet 21, an outlet 22 for the lighter acceptable solids, and a collection chamber 15 for the heavier rejectable solids which is flushed out at intervals. White water and wood pulp are supplied to the cleaner 26 which comprises a multihydrocyclone discharging acceptable material to a head box 38 and recirculating surplus acceptable material through a line 41. The line 28 discharging rejectable solids from the cleaner 26 operates partially full and is connected by a line 45 to a vacuum pump which is connected to the duct 25. Acceptable solids from the cleaner 10 flow to the cleaner 27 which comprises hydrocyclones 53 discharging acceptable solids into the line 41 and rejectable solids to a hydrocyclone 58 discharging acceptable solids to the line 41. White water may be supplied to the cleaners 10, 27, 58. The level in the separator 10 is maintained constant by admitting more or less water to a line 48 through a valve 51 having a control means 69 connected at 67 to the upper end of the separator.
