Abstract

1,083,283. Cyclone separators. J. M. VOITH G.m.b.H. Aug. 25, 1964 [Aug. 26, 1963], No. 34684/64. Heading B2P. A cyclone for clarifying suspensions or liquids containing impurities comprises a vortex chamber 1, Fig. 1, having a tangential inlet 2 of the suspension or liquid to be clarified and an outlet 3 for the removal of heavy impurities, an off-take tube 6 for the discharge of suspension or liquid having an inlet end portion which decreases in the direction of flow or, as shown, is of constant cross-section, and a discharge tube 10 mounted within the tube 6 for separating and discharging light impurities. In operation, gases separated from the suspension or liquid, accumulate in a central core 11 which rises upwardly and together with the light impurities 12 is removed through the discharge tube 10 which is axially adjustable and can be exchanged or has its end portion exchangeable. The clarified suspension or liquid is removed through a tangential outlet 9. In Fig. 2, the gases are removed through an exchangeable tube 15 adjustably guided in a bush 17 and provided with a throttle device 19 which can be adjusted to regulate the pressure in the gas core 11 to stabilize the latter. The inlet ends of the tubes 6, 10 and 15 may have sharp edges. In Fig. 3, the gas is discharged downwards with the heavy impurities and a disc 23 is positioned within the tube 10 to support the gas core. The tube is axially adjustable by means of a rod 25 to control the gas pressure. The disc may extend to the wall of the tube 10 and be provided with apertures for the upward passage of the light impurities or may be, as shown, spaced from the tube 10 by a gap 24 for such passage. Relative dimensions of component parts are given. The cyclone may be used for treating fibre suspensions in the manufacture of paper or cardboard.
