Abstract

507,412. Wet-separating apparatus; centrifugal separators. FREEMAN, H. Oct. 13, 1937, Nos. 27861 and 27862. Convention dates, Nov. 19, 1936 and Aug. 24, 1937. [Classes 23 and 82 (ii)] [Also in Group I] To separate heavier matter from a liquid, such as a suspension of paper pulp or china clay the liquid is introduced under pressure from a pipe 11 through a tapered nozzle into a spiral channel 12 surrounding an outlet tube 13 in a receptacle 15, so that it is caused to flow down spirally in the outer portion of the vessel and the heavier matter is separated centrifugally. From the lower end of the receptacle the suspension of the lighter matter rises, still moving spirally, as a central core and passes away through the tube 13. The spirally-flowing columns are contracted at the centre by means of. disc 17 with a central aperture 18. The disc may be rigid and dished or it may be of rubber or other flexible material so that it is dished under pressure to the liquid. The separated heavier matter passes at the bottom through an outer aperture or apertures 21 in a similar disc 19 and is collected in a conical receptacle 22 and delivered through a sight glass 24 to a receiver 25. The receptacle 22 may be formed with vertical ribs on the inner face of its wall.
