Abstract
506,488. Centrifugal separators. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Oct. 29, 1938, No. 31306. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1937. [Classes 23 and 117] Pulverulent materials are sorted centrifugally in an eddy formed by a carrier fluid which travels in a chamber from periphery to centre; the coarse material leaves at the boundary of the chamber and the fine material is withdrawn axially with the carrier fluid. The form of apparatus shown has a separating chamber 1 with entry pipes 2 for the carrier fluid. The material to be separated may be supplied with the carrier fluid, or it may be supplied separately through the inlet 3. The fluid whirls with a diminishing radius and the fine material passes through the axial outlet tube 6 with the carrier, and the coarse material passes through the outlets 4 to the collecting chamber 9. The grading of the two parts separated may be varied by varying the speed or quantity of the carrier fluid by means of a pump or valve in front of the inlets 2, or by displaceable flaps 7. A diaphragm 8 may be arranged at the outlet tube 5, or adjustable openings may be provided in a part of this tube projecting into the chamber 1. The grading of the separated coarse material may be varied by admitting carrier fluid by the pipe 6 to flow in counter-current to the material flowing out through the openings 4.
