Abstract

771,641. Centrifugal separators. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. June 30, 1955 [June 30, 1954], No 18940/55. Class 23 In a centrifugal separator, for separating liquid from gas or vapour, at least part of the wall of the separator is formed of porous material through which liquid present on that part of the wall is removed by suction., The material is preferably metallic or ceramic sintered material having pores less than 0.1 mm. diameter, and the pressure difference across the material wall is so arranged that some liquid remains within the pores so that gas is not withdrawn with the liquid. In a cyclone, the porous material 6, (Fig. 1) forms part of the wall of chamber surrounding the vortex-finder, liquid being removed from the chamber by connecting the outlet 7 to a suction pump or to a low pressure point in the line leading from the liquid outlet 4. In the separator shown in Fig. 4, the gas and liquid is introduced by a tangential or axial inlet 10 into a whirl chamber 11 having walls 12 of the porous material, liquid passing through the wall being discharged through an outlet 14.
