Abstract
713,064. Injectors. HOLMES & CO., Ltd., W. C. April 12, 1951 [April 14, 1950], No. 9182/50. Class 71. [Also in Groups VI and XII] A method of oxidizing and/or suspension ;of oxidizable solids, for example sulphided liquors which have been used in coal gas purification, comprises passing the solution and/or the suspension in a stream through a venturi and introducing an oxygen containing gas under pressure into the stream through the walls of the venturi. Apparatus for carrying out the oxidation comprises a venturi tube 6 arranged in a chamber 2 and having perforations 10 through which an oxygen containing gas is forced, the venturi tube being arranged as a detachable unitary element. The perforations 10 are preferably arranged as shown on the downstream side of the venturi throat and are inclined and have a smaller diameter on the inner surface of the venturi than on its outside wall. In a modification, the venturi tube may be of porous ceramic or sintered refractory material.
