Abstract

Bottom blowing steel converter using two gases, oxygen and endothermic gas. The two gases are introduced through a multitude of concentric tubes in each of which the oxygen is introduced through the innter tube and the endothermic gas through the outer tube, thus forming an envelope round the oxygen when entering the furnace. This causes better control and economy and also reduces wear of gas inlet nozzles. The bottom of the converter is detachable for easy maintenance.
