Abstract
La presente invencion se refiere a la recuperacion de cobalto de materiales que contienen cobalto, en particular de baterias secundarias de ion de litio que contienen cobalto, de baterias gastadas o de su chatarra. Se divulga un proceso para la recuperacion de cobalto de materiales que contienen cobalto, que comprende los pasos de: proveer un horno convertidor, cargar formadores de escoria y uno o mas de mate de cobre, mate de cobre- niquel y aleacion impura dentro del horno e inyectar un gas oxidante para fundir la carga en condiciones oxidantes, obteniendo de esta manera un bano fundido que comprende una fase de metal crudo, y una escoria que contiene cobalto, y separar el metal crudo de la escoria que contiene cobalto, caracterizado en que los materiales que contienen cobalto son cargados dentro del horno. Este proceso es adecuado especialmente para el reciclaje de baterias secundarias de ion de litio que contienen cobalto. El cobalto se concentra en una cantidad limitada de escoria del convertidor, de la que puede recuperarse economicamente, junto con otros elementos tales como cobre y/o niquel.
