Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un proceso para la recuperación de metales y de calor a partir de baterías recargables gastadas, particularmente a partir de baterías de iones de litio gastadas que contienen cantidades de cobalto relativamente pequeñas. Particularmente, se encontró que dichas baterías de iones de litio de bajo contenido de cobalto pueden procesarse en un horno de fundición de cobre al: - alimentar una carga útil y formadores de escoria al horno de fundición; - añadir calor y agentes reductores; por lo que al menos parte del calor y/o agentes reductores se remplaza por baterías de iones de litio que contienen uno o más de Fe metálico, Al metálico, y carbón. Con el uso de baterías de LFP o LMO gastadas para alimentar el horno de fundición de cobre, la tasa de producción de blíster de Cu aumenta, mientras que el consumo de energía de fuentes fósiles disminuye.
