Description
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en fremgangsmåte til til konservering av trevirke for å bibringe beskyttelse mot trevirkenedbrytende organismer.
Anvendelse av polymerer, vokser og biocider i organiske løsemidler for å behandle trevirke er blitt rapportert, for eksempel i US patent 4.143.010 hvor det beskrives behandling av trevirke med pentaklorfenol, fettsyrer eller vokser samt syntetiske polymerer i et organisk løsemiddel, så som karbontetraklorid. Imidlertid er det ønskelig med fremgangsmåter til behandling av trevirke uten anvendelse av organiske løsemidler, liksom en fremgangsmåte for å øke biocidpenetrering inn i trevirket.
WO00/41861A beskriver en fremgangsmåte for å behandle et trevirkesubstrat med en vannbasert voksformulering omfattende trevirkekonserveringsmidler. Publikasjonen nevner isotiazaloner.
En annen fremgangsmåte som beskriver vannbaserte voksemulsjoner er kjent fra WO03/098863.
Problemet som løses med den foreliggende oppfinnelse er behovet for en fremgangsmåte til behandling av trevirke med biocider og vokser i en vandig formulering for å øke penetrering av biocid inn i trevirket, samt en fremgangsmåte til stabilisering av den vandige trevirkebehandlingsformulering.
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en fremgangsmåte kjennetegnet ved at fremgangsmåten omfatter at trevirket bringes i kontakt med et vandig preparat som omfatter: (a) en parafinvoks som har et smeltepunkt på fra 45 til 75°C og en midlere partikkelstørrelse som ikke er over 120 nm og fra 0,5 til 5%, basert på vekt, voksfaststoffer basert på hele preparatet, (b) 0,001 % til 3%, baser på vekt, minst ett ikke-ionisk overflateaktivt stoff, og
(c) minst ett organisk trevirkekonserveringsmiddel.
Foretrukne utførelser av oppfinnelsen er angitt i underkravene 2-6.
Organiske trevirkekonserveringsmidler omfatter for eksempel halogenerte 3-isotiazolonbiocider, 3-jodpropargyl-n-butylkarbamat, propikonazol, tebukonazol, betoxazin og ikke-halogenerte 3-isotiazolonbiocider, for eksempel, 2-n-oktyl-4-isotiazolin-3-on ("OIT").
I tillegg kan det også anvendes en olje, enten en naturlig eller syntetisk parafinolje, så som mineralolje eller en olje fra avlinser, så som solsikkeolje, soyaolje, palmeolje eller deres hydrogenerte analoger, til å frembringe en mer stabil trevirkebehandlingsemulsjon. Denne emulsjonen kan eventuelt inneholde et anionisk overflateaktivt stoff.
Alle prosentsatser og ppm verdier er etter vekt og er regnet av behandlings-blandingens totale vekt med mindre annet er angitt. Organiske trevirkekonserveringsmidler er de som ikke inneholder metaller med unntak av spor av forurensninger. Det halogenerte isotiazolonbiocid omfatter fortrinnsvis et 3-isotiazolon som haren C4- Ci2N-alkyl substituent, mer foretrukket et klorert 3-isotiazolon og mest foretrukket 4,5-diklor-2-n-oktyl-4-isotiazolin-on
("DCOIT").
Vokser som er egnet for anvendelse i den foreliggende oppfinnelse har fortrinnsvis et smeltepunkt (noen ganger rapportert som et mykningspunkt) på fra 45 til 160°C, fortrinnsvis ikke høyere enn 130°C, alternativt ikke høyere enn 75°C, alternativt ikke høyere enn 65°C, alternativt ikke høyere enn 56°C. Parafin, så som slagg - og parafinvoks, karnauba, polyetylen, polypropylen, oksygenert polyetylen, maleinsyreanhydridmodifisert polypropylen samt maleinsyreanhydrid - C8- C24alkylenkopolymerer er egnet for anvendelse i denne oppfinnelse. Mer enn én voks kan inkluderes i trevirkebehandlingsblandingen. Fortrinnsvis har voksen en midlere partikkelstørrelse som ikke er større enn 500 nm, alternativt ikke større enn 250 nm, alternativt ikke større enn 120 nm, alternativt ikke større enn 110 nm, alternativt ikke større enn 100 nm.
Typiske ikke-ioniske overflateaktive stoffer omfatter, men er ikke begrenset til, polyetere, for eksempel etylenoksid - og propylenoksid kondensater som kan omfatte uforgrenete og forgrenete alkyl - og alkylarylpolyetylenglykol- og - polypropylenglykoletere og -tioetere, alkylfenoksypoly (etylenoksy) etanoler som har alkylgrupper som inneholder fra ca 7 til ca 18 karbonatomer og som har fra ca 3 til ca 100 etylenoksyenheter, samt polyoksyalkylen derevater av heksitol, som omfatter sorbitaner, sorbider, mannitaner, manniderog alkyl polyglukosider.
De vandige preparater som anvendes til å behandle trevirke inneholder fortrinnsvis fra 300 ppm til 5000 ppm halogener! isotiazolonbiocid, mer foretrukket fra 400 ppm til 4000 ppm og mest foretrukket fra 500 ppm til 2000 ppm. Fortrinnsvis inneholder preparatet fra 0,001 % til 3 % overflateaktivt stoff, mer foretrukket fra 0,01 % til 1 % og mest foretrukket fra 0,02% til 0,7%. I en utførelsesform av oppfinnelsen er nivået av overflateaktivt stoff fra 0,02 % til 0,4 %. Fortrinnsvis er innholdet av voksfaststoffer i preparatet fra 0,5 % til 5 %, mer foretrukket fra 1 % til 3 %. Fortrinnsvis er forholdet mellom voksfaststoffer og biocid fra 1:1 til 150:1, mer foretrukket fra 3:1 til 70:1.
Det vandige trevirkebehandlingspreparat inneholder eventuelt et ikke-vandig løsemiddel. Fortrinnsvis er mengden løsemiddel fra 0,01 % til 2 %, mer foretrukket fra 0,02% til 1% og mest foretrukket fra 0,04% til 0,5%. Egnete løsemidler omfatter ester- og eterløsemidler som har et kokepunkt på minst 150°C og fortrinnsvis et flammepunkt på minst 60°C. Fortrinnsvis er det vandige preparat stort sett fritt for andre løsemidler. Eksempler på egnete løsemidler omfatter glykoler og deres etere og estere, for eksempel "TEXANOL" (2,2,4-trimetyl-1,3- pentandiol-mono-isubutyratester tilgjengelig fra Eastman Co., Kingsport TN), "DOWANOL DPM" (dipropylenglykol-metyl-eter tilgjengelig fra Dow Chemical Co.), "DOWANOL PPH" (propylenglykol fenyleter), propylenglykol (PG), dipropylenglykol, dipropylenglykolbutyleter, dipropylenglykolpropyleter, alkyletere av tripropylenglykol, så som tripropylen-glykolmetyleter, alkyletere av etylenglykol, så som etylenglykolmonobutyleter, samt alkyletere av dietylenglykol, så som dietylenglykolmonobutyleter og estere av oljer fra avlinger, så som "Archer RC" solsikkeolje-ester.
I visse tilfeller er de resulterende trevirkebehandlingsemulsjoner ikke helt forenelige og behøver ytterligere bestanddeler til å stabilisere emulsjonen slik at trevirket kan behandles uten avsetning av vokspartikler på trevirkets overflate. Ytterligere nonionisk overflateaktivt stoff (etylenoksidinnhold 3-7 moles), opp til 10000 ppm kan tilsettes(foretrukket område 100-8000 ppm, mer foretrukket 150- 6000 ppm). Dersom ytterligere forenelighet er nødvendig kan det tilsettes en olje, som beskrevet ovenfor, fra 0,1 til 1 % (foretrukket område 0,1-1 %, mer foretrukket 0,2-0,6%). Forholdet mellom olje og voks er fra 2:1 til 1:50 (foretrukket område er fra 1:3 til 1:10). Eventuelt kan et anionisk overflateaktivt stoff tilsettes, 0,1-1 %, for å hjelpe til med emulgering (mer foretrukket område 0,2- 0,6 %). Eksempler på anioniske overflateaktive stoffer som vil kunne anvendes er alkalimetall- og ammoniumsalter av alkyl- og alkylarylsulfonsyrer og Cio- C24- fettsyrer. Salter av fettsyrer, så som palmitinsyre, oleinsyre og stearinsyre, er foretrukne idet de kan bibringe noe vannavstøtning. De foretrukne salter er natrium, kalium, ammonium og hydroksyalkylammonium, så som hydroksyetylammonium eller tri(hydroksy-etyl)ammonium.
De vandige preparater som anvendes i foreliggende oppfinnelse kan eventuelt inneholde ytterligere bestanddeler som omfatter, men som ikke er begrenset til stabilisatorer, fargestoffer, andre trevirkebiocider.-fungicider og insecticider, antioksidanter, metallchelatdannere, radikalfangere etc. Stabilisatorer omfatter for eksempel organiske og uorganiske UV stabilisatorer, så som kobberoksid eller andre kobbersalter eller - komplekser som motstår utluting; sinkoksyd; jernsalter, jernoksid, jernkomplekser, transparent jernoksid nanopartikkel-jernoksid; titandioksid, benzofenon og substituerte benzofenoner; kanelsyre og estere og amider derav; substituerte triaziner, så som trifenyltriazin og substituerte fenyltriazin, UV- absorberingsmidler; benzotriazol- og substituerte benzotriatol, UV- absorberingsmidler; hindrede aminlysstabilisatorer, anvendt enkeltvis eller i kombinasjon. Andre trevirkebiozider, -fungicider - insecticider omfatter for eksempel de som er opplistet i US patent No 6.610.282, for eksempel imizdakloprid og permetrin. Antioksidanter omfatter vilkårlige, kommersielt tilgjengelige antioksidantforbindelser, for eksempel fosfitt-oksidanter som "IRGAFOS"; laktonantioksidanter; fenoliske antioksidanter, så som "BHT"; askorbinsyre;og "IRGANOX" og lignende. Metallchelat dannere omfatter for eksempel EDTA, NTA, 1,10-fenantrolin, "AC U ME R" 3100, "DEQUEST", "TAMOL" 731, tripolyfosfat og andre uorganiske og organiske forbindelser og polymerer som er nyttige ved chelatdannelse eller dispergering av metallsalter. Radi kalfangere omfatter for eksempel "TEMPO".
Behandling av trevirke utføres ved å bringe trevirket i kontakt med det vandige preparat som beskrives her, fortrinnsvis under betingelser som er spesifisert i AWPA standarder T1-05, N1-04, N2-04, og referanser som er sitert i disse.
I en foretrukket utførelsesform formuleres behandlingsblandingen som en bruksferdig emulsjon i en eneste beholder med 0,5-5 % vokstørrstoffer, 400- 4000 ppm DCOIT, 0-1,5 % overflateaktivt stoff/overflateaktive stoffer og resten vann.

Behandlingsblandinger.
Fremstilling av trevirkebehandlingsblandingen av en formulering av DCOIT
/"DOWANOL" /DPM / "TEXANOL".
3,8 liter av behandlingsblandingen ble fremstilt ved å tynne en kommersiell voksemulsjon med springvann til den totale vekt (minus vekten av biocid som skulle tilsettes) under omrøring i 20 min ved 300 omdr/min. Til den godt omrørte blanding ble det langsomt tilsatt tilstrekkelig formulert DCOIT (25% DCOIT og 25% "TERGITOL" 15-S-5 (forgrenet C15alkyl med 40 etylenoksid enheter) løst i 1:1 dipropylenglykolmetyleter, alt etter vekt i DCOIT-formuleringen. For å frembringe en sluttkonsentrasjon på 800 ppm eller 2500 ppm DCOIT, som angitt i tabell 1. Blandingen ble omrørt i 30 min og anvendt som den var til behandling av trevirket.
Prosedyre for behandling av trevirke:
To 14x14x2,5 cm stykker av sydlig amerikansk furu ble anbrakt i et to liters trykkbeholderutstyr med et innløpsrør, gass/vakuuminnløp, trykksensorer, utløserventil og nivåindikatorer.
Beholderen forsegles, og trykket senkes til 66-86,6mm Hg (88-91 kPa) og holdes i 15-20 min. Vakuumet slås av, og tilstrekkelig behandlingsløsning trekkes inn i beholderen for å dekke trevirket fullstendig. Beholderen settes under trykk på ca 1136 kPa. En pumpe anvendes til å opprettholde væskenivået over trevirket. Når ikke mer behandlingsblanding opptas av trevirket avlastes trykket, og beholderen tappes ut via utløserventilen. Trevirket kan fjernes på dette tidspunkt(fullcellebehandling), eller et vakuum kan utøves i beholderen igjen i ca 5 min, beholderen tappes ut igjen og deretter fjernes trevirket (fullcellebehandling med avsluttende vakuumbehandling) for å fjerne delvis noe av overflatefuktigheten fra det behandlede trevirket. Alt trevirket som er rapportert her ble behandlet via fullcelle-behandlingen med avsluttende vakuumbehandling.
Analyse av behandlingsblandingen og trevirket:
En 2 grams prøve av behandlingsblandingen ble som den var analysert for DCOIT ved HPLC. Behandlingsblandingen viste seg å inneholde 800 ppm eller 1500 ppm DCOIT som angitt i tabell 1. Etter at trevirkeprøven hadde tørket til en konstant vekt, anbrakt i et rom med konstant temperatur og fuktighet, ble den analysert for DCOIT- innhold. Under anvendelse av en søyleboremaskin med et 19mm Forstner borskjær ble det boret tre huller i trevirket. Plasseringen av hullene var på flaten minst 6,4mm fra sidene og endene og hvor fibervinkelen var mest vertikal mellom de to flater. 1mm snitt fra hvert hull i dybder på 1,3 og 10mm ble samlet inn, kombinert og analysert for DCOIT.
En kjent vekt av høvlet trevirkeprøve ekstraheres i metanol ved ultralyd-behandling i 2 timer. Ekstrakten får deretter kjølne til romtemperatur. Den avkjølte ekstrakt analyseres ved HPLC med omvendt fase. DCOIT skilles fra prøvematriksen under anvendelse av en 25cm C18-søyle ved anvendelse av vann og metanol som mobil fase. DCOIT påvises ved anvendelse av ultrafiolett detektorsett ved 280 nm. Konsentrasjonen av DCOIT i prøven bestemmes ved å sammenligne topparealet av DCOIT- toppen i prøven med DCOIT-toppen i en standard løsning under anvendelse av en ekstern standardkalkuleringsmetode.
I tabell 1 presenteres penetreringsdata for DCOIT i trevirket i ppm ved dybder på 1,3 og 10mm, voksemulsjonens midler partikkelstørrelse, voksens smeltepunkt (SMP), typen overflateaktivt stoff (i voksformuleringen)
N= nonionisk, A= anionisk), vokstypen, og behandlingsløsningens stabilitet (S= stabil, U= ustabil) før/under behandling av trevirket.
Claims (6)
1. Fremgangsmåte til konservering av trevirke,karakterisert vedat fremgangsmåten omfatter at trevirket bringes i kontakt med et vandig preparat som omfatter; (a) en parafinvoks som har et smeltepunkt på fra 45 til 75°C og en midlere partikkelstørrelse som ikke er over 120 nm og fra 0,5 til 5%, basert på vekt, voksfaststoffer basert på hele preparatet, (b) 0,001% til 3%, baser på vekt, minst ett ikke-ionisk overflateaktivt stoff, og (c) minst ett organisk trevirkekonserveringsmiddel.
2. Fremgangsmåte i samsvar med krav 1,karakterisert vedat nevnte minst ene organiske trevirkekonserveringsmiddel er et halogener! 3-isotiazolonbiocid.
3. Fremgangsmåte i samsvar med krav 2,karakterisert vedat det halogenerte 3-isotiazolonbiocid er 4,5- diklor-2-n-oktyl-4-isotiazolin-3-on.
4. Fremgangsmåte i samsvar med krav 3,karakterisert vedat parafinvoksen har et smeltepunkt som ikke er over 56°C.
5. Fremgangsmåte i samsvar med krav 4,karakterisert vedat preparatet omfatter fra 0,5 % til 5% parafinvoks og fra 400 ppm til 4000 ppm 4,5-diklor-2-n-oktyl-4-isotiazolin-3-on.
