Abstract

Oppfinnelsen angår en stamme av Enterococcus mundtii som har probiotiske egenskaper. Stammen av E. mundtii (ST4SA) produserer et antimikrobielt peptid som oppviser antimikrobiell aktivitet mot et bredt spekter av bakterier. Oppfinnelsen tilveiebringer også en isolert nukleotidsekvens som koder for det antimikrobielle peptidet (peptid ST4SA). Et annet aspekt ved oppfinnelsen angår en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av et peptid ifølge oppfinnelsen som omfatter å dyrke Enterococcus mundtii-stamme ST4SA i et næringsmedium under mikroaerofile betingelser ved en temperatur på mellom 10 °C og 45 °C, inntil en utvinnbar mengde av nevnte peptid blir produsert og utvinne nevnte peptid. Det isolerte peptidet ifølge oppfinnelsen kan anvendes som et antimikrobielt middel i en flytende formulering eller en gelformulering som en topisk behandling og kan også anvendes som et antimikrobielt middel etter innkapsling i en polymer.
