En mutert termofil mikroorganisme er fremstilt, med en modifikasjon for å inaktivere laktat dehydrogenasegenet fra en villtype mikroorganisme. Den imiterte mikroorganisme er anvendt ved fremstilling av etanol, under anvendelse av C3, C5 eller C6 som substrat.
