Abstract

En fremgangsmåte for gjenvinning av svovel fra en sur gasstrøm er beskrevet. Fremgangsmåten inkluderer et Claus-svovelgjenvinningstrinn i kombinasjon med et biologisk svovelgjenvinningstrinn for å oppnå en søt gasstrøm med meget lave konsentrasjoner av hydrogensulfid og svoveldioksid. Fremgangsmåten inkluderer å reagere en sur gasstrøm med oksygen under slike oksidasjonsbetingelser at det gis en forbrenningsgass omfattende hydrogensulfid og svoveldioksid således at de har et forhold mellom hydrogensulfid og svoveldioksid større enn 2:1, fortrinnsvis fra 2:1 til 30:1. Forbrenningsgassen reakteres under Claus-reaksjonsbetingelser for å gi en reaksjonsgass omfattende svovel. Svovel gjenvinnes fra reaksjonsgassen for å gi en halegass omfattende en konsentrasjon av hydrogensulfid og mindre enn 1000 ppm svoveldioksid. Halegassen kontakteres med den utarmede absorbent for derved å fjerne fra halegassen en andel av hydrogensulfidet inneholdt deri og å gi en søtgass og et rikt løsemiddel omfattende oppløst hydrogensulfid. Det oppløste hydrogensulfid i det rike løsemiddel blir biologisk oksidert til elementært svovel ved kontaktering av det rike løsemiddel med svovelbakterier under egnede biologiske oksidasjons- betingelser med det rike løsemiddel.
