Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un planta de tabaco transgénica que comprende un polinucleótido exógeno de al menos 19 nucleótidos contiguos de longitud que tiene al menos un 90% de identidad de secuencia con un polinucleótido que codifica una región de la SEQ ID NO: 24, en donde el polinucleótido exógeno está configurado para disminuir la expresión del polinucleótido NtMRP o la actividad de la proteína codificada por al menos 50% y en donde las hojas de dicha planta tienen una reducción en el contenido de cadmio de al menos 5% en comparación con una planta de control en la que la expresión de NtMRP o la actividad de la proteína codificad por el polinucleótido no ha disminuido.
