Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a sistemas, aparatos, y métodos para determinar las aberraciones genéticas o moleculares en una muestra biológica de un organismo. Las muestras biológicas que incluyen fragmentos de ADN libres de células se analizan para identificar desequilibrios en regiones cromosómicas, por ejemplo, debido a supresiones y/o amplificaciones en un tumor. Se usan múltiples loci para cada región cromosómica. Tales desequilibrios luego se pueden usar para diagnosticar (detectar) un paciente con cáncer, así como también pronosticar a un paciente con cáncer, o para detectar la presencia o monitorear el progreso de una afección premaligna en un paciente. La severidad de un desequilibrio así como también el número de regiones que exhiben un desequilibrio se pueden usar. Un análisis sistemático de segmentos no superpuestos de un genoma puede proporcionar una herramienta de detección general para una muestra. Adicionalmente, un paciente puede ser analizado con el tiempo para rastrear la severidad de cada una o más regiones cromosómicas y un número de regiones cromosómicas para habilitar la detección y pronóstico, así como también el monitoreo del progreso (por ejemplo, después del tratamiento).
